You're not nuts. You just need a solid plan. You're not too old to go back to school, but considering the amount of debt you have and the fact that you have a 2 year old to support, you'll need a map of how to get into and through dentistry school and still be able to support your family. You might consider a few things:

1. Talk to a debt conselor to see if you can reduce your current debt.

2. Do you know any dentists who might be willing to advise and mentor you in this pursuit? You'd definitely want to have some support in this area.

3. Is dental school something you can pursue while still holding down a job? If not, you'll need to line out your options for income during your schooling.

4. Start looking online for scholarships and grants for folks going back to school. You might find some money that will help you pay for dental school.

Books, magazines, and the radio are full of stories of people who've decided to change their lives and do something that might seem "nuts" and many of them have been very successful. You can do this if you want to.

Plan the work and then work the plan.

Good luck.
Reply:I went back to university at 30, after being in the workforce from age 16. I did not have any debt. But had I had a lot of debt I might still have done so, if I could find a way to finance it. My earnings post university have been multiples of my pre-university income... easy to say in retrospect.
Reply:YES, take care of your debt fast, work only allotted hours and no overtime but go home early to see your fam and invest in your daughter. I would love to have the fulfillment of playing with my daughter at such a young age and watching her grow to realize her potential. Daddy's girl doesn't stay 2 long. Then after school debt is %26lt; to 6 figs or 5 figs reconsider a higher professional degree. I already assume you are a professional to be interested in going into dentistry in the first place.
Reply:Go for it!
Reply:You are never to late to do what you love. I am 32, single mum of 3 kids, dont own a house, and owe loads of money. I have just began financial freedom working from home and last month i earnt $1500 working 10 hours a week. I love what i do, and would tell everyone to join in if i could. See if this is for you. www.homewealth4u.info
