Dentistry in usa?
I think you have you to get your DDS in America. That is the only way insurance companies will put you in their databases.
Reply:Hi

I don't know about USA. But there are many refresher courses available in Canada. After that you can get your licence.

Dentistry - How long wil it take to know if my tooth has died?

I recently got a blow to the mouth that has resulted to three of my teeth now not having any feeling in them (about 3 weeks ago). My dentist tells me that the teeth may have died due to nerve damage but said only time will tell - he couldnt tell me how long I should leave it before I would know if they wernt going to recover - any ideas?

Dentistry - How long wil it take to know if my tooth has died?
If your teeth are sensitive to hot they are dying, if they are sensitive when biting together they could be dying(or have a cavity), cold sensitivity really isn't that huge of a red flag, sharp or dull pains, having to medicate(Motrin, etc.) due to the pain, are also signs they tooth is dying, abscessing is another sign, your dentist should have taken x-rays..........if he did and didn't see anything around the nerve or the PDL you will probably be fine, if he seen something, you should probably go to the endodontist for a consult, b/c more than likely those teeth are going to need a root canal and crowns......good luck!!
Reply:i think if you teeth star changing color like getting dark then you know they are death
Reply:It could happen at any time, you never know how teeth will react to trauma. If you develop hot/cold sensitivity, pain that keeps you up at night or if the tooth starts to become a darker shade, that's a good sign that your tooth is dying.
Reply:sorry but what about if you eat something hard you mite find so pain or something

Dentistry-high risk of disease and back pain?

are dentists at a high risk of disease and back pain? anyone know the salary difference between dental hygiene and ultrasound technician in WA?

Dentistry-high risk of disease and back pain?
backpain associated with bad posture: yes. Disease?? I suppose if you stabbed your self with something you had touched patients blood with by accident then yes.

Dentistry Vs. Medicine as a career?

Has anyone here had to decide between one or the other? What are the pros to becoming a dentist Vs an MD? Pros? Cons? Personal stories?

Thanks for your opinons.

Dentistry Vs. Medicine as a career?
Dentistry you can set your own hours, choose your own staff and it is more specialzed in one area, however depending on what kind of doctor you are you could have your own clinic if you are specialized you could do the same, if you are a general practice doctor you are not as specialized and may have to work all kinds of hours and days, they are both a type of medicine it just depends on what type you are interested in

DENTISTRY - Teeth filing?

okay. so i dont like my teeth.. at all. and i have photos coming up ... so i was looking into about teeth filing.. like shortening my front teeth.

does anyone know how much this costs and what is done?

will they do it at any age?

DENTISTRY - Teeth filing?
If you dont like the color go whiten them, if they are chipped fill them or reshape them, if they are skew get braces. Shortening your teeth seems drastic as this will prematurely age you. Consult your dentist

DENTISTRY- Filing down teeth?

where can this be done?

I am 14 years old, will they still do it for me?

DENTISTRY- Filing down teeth?
You are too young, your still growing and your mouth will continue to grow and change. remember we all have different appearance; don't file them, let it look natural..the main thing is keeping them clean!!!

I am sure some dentist would do it, but WHY...love yourself as GOD made you..

Dentistry questions!!!?

I'm currently in my first year of dental school and was wondering where should i go after i graduate? i don't want to start out in a private practice.... what are all my options?

which options pay the most?

also....i wanted to know (if you are a dentist already)

what's the hardest part of being a dentist in your everyday job?

also what skill is the hardest for you to perform daily? i.e extractions, cavities, root canals......

loads of info would be appreciated to the HIGHEST level!!!!!!!

thanx!!!! ~TQueen~

Dentistry questions!!!?
Well, when I graduated I went into the Air Force for 2.5 years [stationed in Alaska] and those were some of the best years of my life....lots of time to build up my speed and also to rotate through all of the specialties with no worries about overhead, staff, patient booking, etc. When you graduate from school you are proficient but sure can't work at the speed required to make a living. So, I recommend that highly [you do have to put up with some military craziness though]. The hardest part of my practice is the business aspect and running staff interference as the gals seem to develop petty problems. I'd say the hardest treatment to perform is 3rd molar extractions....I've finally started referring them all out. I also do very little perio surgery as patients HATE that. Good luck in your career!
Reply:If you don't plan to have kids, then miltary might be a good place. Most starting salaries are lower than you can do in Private practice. You might consider a career in military. I bought a practice %26amp; started right in at first %26amp; did wel,but i was a fast operator. led my class in the clinic. Some of the guys would have starved, they were so slow. I never cared for Perio or Ortho but loved the rest. Fees have become so ridiculous that you don't have to do much to make money. Don't try to get an appt on Friday or Sat in our town, %26amp; you can't get help in ER either just hurt till Mon. Yes I am retired now. when i ask a cohort why fees are so high they say cause the others do!! some will admit they are embarassed by the fees %26amp; let the girls sweat that. Best of luck, am afraid you will run into socialized dentistry fore long. What other option can ther be. Patients can't pay a hundred dollars for a simple extraction that i can do in 3 minutes easy DMD 32 yrs here

Dentistry help, few Query's?

I have on the bottom row of teeth both my first premolar's with a cavity in, they dont hurt at all, but they look and feel deep... but im no dentist lol.

There are also 3-4 minor enamal cavitys hardly noticeable.

And on my top row i have a cavity what has been treated with a metal filling.

Does anyone have any idea on how much it would cost and what i could have done...

First i want the filling gone, and it looking like a tooth not a tooth with abit of metal in it.

Secondly need the cavitys fixed...

Thirdly i have a few teeth just out of line, i had braces before and they did alot, these teeth have moved back since..

Forth I was looking in mirror and noticed a sort of scracth or crack in front tooth, i dont know if it is a crack but tooth feels fine and there is no crack on surface i cant feel it..

Last but not least teeth whiteining...

Is there any treat ment what can protect my teeth more, i brush my teeth 3 times a day after each meal, and i floss and use mouth wash...

Dentistry help, few Query's?
first things first, are you registered with an nhs dentist, if you are then things wont be as much as they could be.

the premolars that need filling, under the nhs you can have them filled with white filling material.

the tooth with the metal filling, most dentists will not touch unless there is a problem with it, then you get the option of using white material privately (cost depends on your dental practise as all set own fees).

the front tooth may have a slight crack on the enamel, these can occur with general wear and tear of the teeth especially if you crunch on alot of hard foods. but i would get your dentist to check it out in-case there is something going on.

any other cavities i would ask the dentist about your options for filling materials, if they are not on the front 10 teeth top and bottom then you cannot get white under the nhs.

whitening may not be needed, and i would not have any fillings done until you have completed the whitening treatment but you would be looking to pay upwards of £1000 for a course and some can charge up to £6000. so i would ask your dentist what they charge. you may find that what you are seeing may only be staining from tea coffee red wine and curry (strong coloured foods/drinks) etc... so a trip to the hygienist may be all you need before you contemplate splashing out on expensive whitening, and if its is minor try the big chemists as they sell weaker whitening products that may just do the job for you.

as for your orthodontics, normally braces are carried out and finished before your body has stopped growing, so there is normally some movement, but also the human body naturally moves the teeth slowly forward over a long time as the grains that our ancient ancestors ate would wear down the teeth so they would move forward to fill the gap. this happens to everyone due to evolution but unfortunately for us we don't wear the teeth down now so it gets crowded instead. an orthodontist would treat you privately for this again the cost could be upwards of £1000 topping off at £6000 depending on what braces you choose and time needed, ask for a referral from your dentist.

there is not much you can do to protect your teeth more than just watching out that your not eating too may sugary foods/drinks and watch for fizzy drinks as they contain acid that can erode your teeth and of course acidic foods like lime and lemons. just think of everything in moderation not little and often but a little every now and again.

Could parts of Dentistry be down graded to allow "lesser qualified technicians" to work standard dentistry?

Cleaning and filling teeth cannot be as complicated an operation as it's made out to be, by any stretch of the imagination. The current situation in the UK is that millions are receiving "excessively sub standard care or none at all" with some even reverting to extracting their own teeth (stone age like) in desperation. If qualified doctors are beyond working for National Health rate of pay and there is no more left in the pot to give, then our dear "Labour" government, break away from the status quo and arrange some form of affordable alternative, it's your duty to manage. Help the poorer in society who probably voted for you in hope of better things to come and are feeling very let down by you. We hear you continually preaching "healthy options" no smoking, no exessive drinking , no this, no that, what could really be worse for a persons health than a mouthful of rotting teeth and maybe gum disease as well, so come on Labour Government what will you do about it, and when?

Could parts of Dentistry be down graded to allow "lesser qualified technicians" to work standard dentistry?
Of course you could delegate parts of Dentistry to "lesser qualified technicians". However, that would require de-regulation of dentistry and healthcare in general. Get the ineffective government out of the doctor-patient relationship and good things will start to happen.
Reply:i am a dentist from India %26amp; i am shocked to know that uk is facing same problems like our country when it comes to health.

retaining qualified doctors in govt. service is quite a challenge for administration here as well as most people prefer to practise independently and earn pots of money.

in such a scenario, why is your "dear labour government" throwing away doctors from other countries with all the disastrous arrogance?

if a doctor from a foreign country leaves his home and loved ones in hope of earning a little money BUT provides invaluable service to society,WHAT IS THE HARM?
Reply:If the government wanted enough dentists they should have stopped closing dental schools down. Do they think dentists just appear out of thin air? %26gt;:(

Anyway in answer to your question, yes, there are two groups of professionals who can carry out some dental procedures. Dental hygienists can clean %26amp; polish teeth, place temporary fillings, fissure sealants and a few other things. Dental therapists can do all that and extractions of milk teeth, fillings of adult teeth etc. All of this occurs under written instuction from the dentist who is in charge of planing and managing the treatment so it's more like deligation although some dental auxillieries can be very skilled.

The place to start is at the US Embassy in New Delhi. Others before you have done this and the embassy will know the necessary forms and requirements.

In the US, the various states have different licensing requirements for professions such as doctors and dentists. Therefore, the answer will differ slightly depending on where you want to live in the US. The embassy should be able to help you with this.

What are the high school courses needed as preparation for a major as a doctor of dentistry?

I am doing a research project on careers. The career I have chosen is 'Doctor of Dentistry.' I have A LOT of questions. PLEASE contact me if you have answers!!!!!

What are the high school courses needed as preparation for a major as a doctor of dentistry?
Read a lot, learn to study well, and try to take in a broad range of experiences as a high school student.

Dentistry requires a solid background in math and sciences, so take as much math and science as you can. Remember, too, that dentistry requires that you do well in college, and the first place to start doing well in college is to do well in high school! So, be sure to as much English, history, social studies and other courses as you can.

The other thing that dentists do is interact with a lot of different people who may come from a broad range of social, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. So the more that you can be exposed to other people, learn to be comfortable talking and interacting with others the better.
Reply:upper level math and science - especially biology, chemistry, and advanced algebra.

(I'm just so relieved to find a responsible teen here!)

Best of luck to you.

Will a person who's left-handed fing it hard to use d equipment in dentistry?

i read from newspaper that stated d equipment for dentistry is designed for right-handed...

Will a person who's left-handed fing it hard to use d equipment in dentistry?
we have a left-handed dentist at our clinic, he just sits on the other side.... no problem
Reply:chairs can be changed around so that they work with lefthanders, and at least at my dental school left handed faculty are always willing to teach and help the left-handers all of the fulcrum and sitting positions when using instruments. So i dont think its harder for them to use dental equipment at all
Reply:hi iam a right handed dentist but i have lot of friends who are left handed ... they have a specialy designed chairs with all controls on left .....by the way are you left handed and planing to become a dentist
Reply:There are so many dentists/hygienists/assistants who are left-handed... and they 'function' just fine. The only difference is that they (providers) sit on the 'other' side of the chair (your left instead of your right). Some even prefer to sit behind your head... it's a preference.

The instruments are comfortable for both left- and right-handed users, as are the chairs and mechanical devices.... kind of like using a pencil~ it doesn't matter if you're left or right handed, you can still use it with ease.

Hi, I'm currently in grade 10 (In high school) and have many questions about dentistry&Therapy.?

(I Am struggling on what to become... either a Therapist or Dentist) Hello, I was just wondering, in grade 11, do i have to take all 3 chem, bio, and physics? After graduating, do i goto college or universiy? I like science, but my mark isn't the highest thing. Also my Math mark isn't high either. My science and math mark are in the 70's. If you were to give me advice, should i take applied math or science? or should i stick to acedemic?

If not dentistry, i would like to go into become a therapist. However, i am not sure what to take for grade11. Do i take all sciences? Do i go to college or University?

If you answer my question, that would be great :]

thanks a lot for reading~!

Hi, I'm currently in grade 10 (In high school) and have many questions about dentistry%26amp;Therapy.?
I think your best path right now would be to talk to a dentist and a therapist in the field you are interested in. You may surprised how easy that is to do. Be professional and set up a 15 minute appointment, go prepared with all the questions you have.

More than likely new questions will come up. Don't be scared about asking - for every professional that says "no" to helping out an interested student, you'll find a hundred that will say "yes".

I'm a college freshman and still unsure about my career path: Pharmacy or Dentistry?

I'm currently a Bio major because I know I want to do something in the medical field...I'm stuck between Pharmacy and Dentistry and I need to choose fast. So benefits and drawbacks of each would be great! Also, salary, hours of work per week, years of school, difficulty of school, etc.

Thank you!

It's really up to you. What have YOU wanted to do since you were younger? No one else can make that decision for you. Since I was younger I knew I wanted to be a teacher. So now, I'm going to school to get my degrees in education and social studies so I can become a high school teacher in a public school.

Only "I" made that decision because I knew that is what I wanted to do.

Talk to counselors at school and ask them questions. But you can't expect them to make up your mind for you. They'll just tell you what you need to know about the 2 professions you are interested in.

Good Luck in your future.
Reply:That is waaay to personal to put on an anonymous place like this. I would consult with your Counselor at school, a trusted friend/family member and weigh your strengths and assets versus the skills and energies needed for these positions. Ultimately, you know what you want and only you can decide. It IS your life and this is part of it-- choosing which road to take.
Reply:The advantages of becoming a pharmacist are:

1) Most jobs are 9-5 meaning that you will have time for family

2) It takes less time to finish and be licensed compared to dentistry

3) Most starting salary are 75-150k depending on location and need

4) You can get $1,000,000 malpractice insurance for only hundreds of dollars per year. compare that to medicine and dentristry

5) You will have a life and a job for the rest of your life

I have a friend who is going into pharmacy....let me tell you the pay is great....and as far as I know you always have someone there to ask questions to where as dentistry you usually just go off on your own. If I had to choose I would have to say Pharmacy because it has to do with helping people a lot in an area people don't think they need help in...or are more comfortable asking the pharmacist than the doctor....Dentistry to me is awkward with the customers and I don't think people appreciate you enough...the see you as a money sucking wombat lol...and some are...well it just costs a lot and you are seen as the bad person.

Take the National Boards Exams I and II. After that, CA requires you to pass the Restorative Technique exam.

You really need to look up the website of each state's Dental Board to see what their requirements are.
Reply:Go to www.wes.org
Reply:To practice dentistry in the US, you need to go to dental school. A bachelors degree usually isn't enough to become a practicing dentist in the US. Board exams are taken after dental school in order to be admitted to practice and receive a license. If you have a good academic record, being admitted to a program would become easier. Your best bet for finding schools would be to google "dental school". You will get the name of lots of schools. Good Luck!

Does it matter if your a left handed and you want to take dentistry.?

Will it work out if you want to take dentistry and you are left handed? My mom tells me that it would be a hassle.

Does it matter if your a left handed and you want to take dentistry.?
Nothing to worry about, not only am I left handed, but I am ALSO a dentist! Your office and procedure equipment can be easily adapted to fit those of us who are left handed. Good luck!
Reply:Do you plan to be a dentist or work in the office as an auxillary (hygienist, assistant)? If you are the dentist you will make all the equipment fit a left-handed person. If you are just working as an auxillary it can be slightly harder. It depends on how the rooms are laid out. There are several left-handed hygiene students in the program I work with.
Reply:as far as i can tell i don't think that should matter or hold you back from what you really wanna do! i hope you are successful in life!

Very few professions are easy on the southpaw.
Reply:Not a hassle at all.

Dental schools usually have equipment that are convertible for use by either rightie or leftie dental students, ditto the equipment you can buy once you get into private practice.

You will do fine.
Reply:HELLO,

THIS IS A GOOD QUESTION. FYI MOST DENTISTS ARE RIGHT HANDED, BUT CHAIRS AND OPERATORIES CAN EASILY BE ADAPTED TO LEFTIES. THE DOMINANT HAND HAS NO IMPACT ON THE QUALITY OFDENTISTRY.

JUST LIKE LEARNING TO WRITE, ADAPTING AS A LEFTIE IS NOT AN IMPEDIMENT TO A SUCCESSFUL CAREER.
Reply:NO PROBLEM AT ALL.

I have 5 dentist friends that are left handed. You just have to buy a dentist chair unit that is left handed. But other than that, no problem at all!
Reply:No it isnt a hassle anymore. In olden days schools used to teach students right handed method only. Now schools teach for right handed and left handed. So you can use which ever hand you like best. Not a big deal anymore now that thinking has evolved.

Can any one help me/ i like practicwork in usa.i'm a dentistry student last year in macedonia?
You need to do a test in America before you can practise there!! Does not matter if you have finished school in a different country you still need to write a test before you are allow to do anything!! Good luck!!
Reply:Your University should be able to give your referrals. If not call ADA here( American Dental Association) and see what they have to say
Reply:You will most likely have to start over in an American dental school. You may even need a year or two of undergraduate college to bring your grades up or to complete admission requirements.

In order to get licensed, you will need to be certified by a USA dental school to take the licensing examination. NO school will do that without a minimum of two years education in their facility. When they certify you, their reputation sits with you as you take the board examination. Funding rests on the number of successful candidates. They can not afford to just let you try it once under their name and see how it goes.

Many dental schools have 2-to-3 year programs to retrain foreign dentists so that they can be certified to take the licensing board examinations, but you are not even close to that level.

What makes you think that you are qualified to answer questions about dentistry?

unless you are a dentist, you are giving bad info. that goes especially for you dental assistants. you don't even have college degrees! you hygienists can answer about gums and that's it.

so please, keep the urban legends to yourselves unless you've actually been to school to study dentistry for say, eight years.

What makes you think that you are qualified to answer questions about dentistry?
I AGREE!!!.

This is such a risky business to those asking questions, yet with no risk to those giving advice.

I hope people give good thought to the answers to these sometimes VERY important questions about their health and possibly their life before taking these answers seriously.

In fact, please go see a doctor, dentist, or other medical professional before truly heeding the advice proffered in this venue. Your health is not worth risking on urban legends supplied by someone who only knows enough to hurt you.

I should know, I'm a doctor...or am I? You'll probably never know!

You know we do study more than just periodontal disease. Dentists, hygienists, and certified assistants (in some states) must have a certain number of continuing education every licensing renewal period. Some professionals take the easy way out, but others learn more than just what they have to. I bet there are quite a few hygienists and assistants that know more about dentistry than some dentists!

And anyways, if you have a serious dental issue, you shouldn't be taking anyones advice on a yahoo group, you should make an appointment with a dentist. If you want to ask a question, you must take what you get. You can always see who your dentist agrees with.

Oh and dentists don't study dentistry for 8 years. They go through 'regular' college for 4 years and then go on to dental school for 4-5 years. If they studied dentistry for 8 years then you truely see a specialist with some extra post graduate education!
Reply:obviously this is a chat page.. relax! People give input from experience. If someone wanted to know something more serious they could A) ask Yahoo or B) ask a dentist.. I guess it depends on how serious people are.. No brainer.. No sweat.. you need to take a chill pill? How are you today? Have you tried the psychology section? lol;)

It's like talking to a regular Joe Blow about life.. Socialism 101...
Reply:yeah and dentists know everything, and malpractices never happen, and people are taking this information at their own risks because they're not going to their actually Dentist to get these questions answered.
Reply:If a dentist gave free treatment or at a lower cost ,then I think there won't be much questions here and neither those answers which make you lose points by asking a question like this.
Reply:Obviously you are not a dentist, because if you were you would know that yes, you do go to school for eight years. However, the first four years are focused on a biology/health based batchelor's degree and the remaining four are actually the dental program if you can obtain an accepable DENMAT score and be lucky enough to be accepted to a dental school. You would only attend a dental school program for eight years if you were advancing in the dental field in a speciality such as an orthodontist, periodontist, pedodontist, endodontist or oral surgeon. You are correct that dental assistants do not have degrees but, yes, certified dental assistants do attend classes through technical schools just like your auto mechanic and are required to pass board exams administered by their state before they can legally assist a doctor. They must also be certified to take and develop x-rays. This is another class that must be taken and an additional board exam that must be passed. Hygienist are required to take specific college classes for approximately two years before entering any hygiene program. Potential hygienist go through a rigorous screening process before being accepted in the program and only the best of the best are chosen. Depending upon the school they either complete a two year certificate or three year batchelor's program.

Regardless, they too must pass regional board exams before they can practice. Their education far exceeds "about gums and that's it."

I do agree with you that some do offer "nonsense" as an answer to questions however, some answers are correct. Only those of us with the proper education or those with personal experiences should reply.
Reply:I agree with Jennifer B.

Also, you have to know that thisis a forum, so if someone wants an answer from a real dentist, well then they should go to a dentist!

Hygenist are qualified to answer questions about dentistry. I mean, what those people asking on this forum isn't that complicated to answer, especially for hygienists and assistants. They are answering many of the same questions at work. I know, 'casue people ask me and I have to be knowledgable enough to answer.
Reply:What's your problem?
Reply:from the paintball puppy.my question was designed to stir things up here in the uk where we pay our taxs and other money into our national health service which is supposed to provide free health care.it is increasingly more difficult for people to register for nhs dentists,as more and more do private work for which those who can afford pay.this means that in effect the health service is letting down a lot of people(especially the less well off)who have paid upfront through taxation only to be asked to pay again.and it aint cheap.

so it is not a case of setteling for 2nd best or creossing the border to mexico(bit far from here)just people being given what they have paid for.

i think my dentist is a very nice person, she is very reassuring and treats me well as a more nervous patient, its the trend im criticising not the individual,
Reply:Ok, Mr. Misinformation, as a registered dental hygienist who has been licensed and practicing for 22 years, I AM fully qualified to answer just about any dental question anyone could ask. I have a B.S. in Dental Hygiene, a four-year couse of study. The courses I took in college were, to name just a few, Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, General and Oral Pathology, General and Oral Histology, Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Oral Diagnosis, Periodontology, Local Anesthesia and Oral Analgesia, etc. After taking those courses and having my hands in people's mouths more days than not over the past 22 years, I think I am fully qualified.

Try Google Scholar. You can find a link to it on their home page. It searches just for scholarly papers available online for the subject you're interested in. Good luck.

It's 33 and $100k in debt too old and too broke to go back to school for dentistry?

i am very unfulfilled in my field. at 33 years old with lots of debt and a 2 year old daughter i am not so sure if it is too late to switch my destiny around and go to back to school for dentistry. am i nuts to think that i will make it?

It's 33 and $100k in debt too old and too broke to go back to school for dentistry?
You're not nuts. You just need a solid plan. You're not too old to go back to school, but considering the amount of debt you have and the fact that you have a 2 year old to support, you'll need a map of how to get into and through dentistry school and still be able to support your family. You might consider a few things:

1. Talk to a debt conselor to see if you can reduce your current debt.

2. Do you know any dentists who might be willing to advise and mentor you in this pursuit? You'd definitely want to have some support in this area.

3. Is dental school something you can pursue while still holding down a job? If not, you'll need to line out your options for income during your schooling.

4. Start looking online for scholarships and grants for folks going back to school. You might find some money that will help you pay for dental school.

Books, magazines, and the radio are full of stories of people who've decided to change their lives and do something that might seem "nuts" and many of them have been very successful. You can do this if you want to.

Plan the work and then work the plan.

Good luck.

Who in INDIA can offer several choices for All Surgeries - Cardiothoracic, Orthopaedic, Dentistry, General?

India today offers many international quality options for all types of surgeries, Cosmetic, Plastic, Laser, Cardiothoracic, Orthopaedic, General And Dentistry. Several health service providers are recognised or accredited by USA %26amp; other Western Countries BUT normally someone who is interested does not get to see and explore more than one option. There must be professional consultants who could provide several alternatives for a better choice, preference and negotiations. Can I reach them ?

My cousin got her breast reduction, tummy tuck and facelift surgery in India by the company called Forerunners Healthcare .The Price for the surgery she paid in India was very less. She paid 30% of the cost she was quoted in America.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. They arrange cosmetic and plastic surgery for foreigners in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low price, as the breast reduction, tummy tuck, facelift and other cosmetic surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Many patients travel from United States of America and UK to get low cost surgery in India. Indian corporate hospitals are comparable to hospitals anywhere in the world. In fact, India has medical facilities that are comparable with the USA, UK and Canada. India offers World Class Medical Facilities, comparable with any of the western countries. How can i whiten my teeth to 100% white w/o cosmetic dentistry ,bleach trays or whitestrips(r)?
I use Chrest Whitestrips and I absolutely love them! Ok, but besides what I like, here's what I can tell you. Most whitening toothpastes don't work andt he ones that do work...they take too long to make a difference. Cosmetic whitening can be expensive. Chrest whitestips WORK! After using them about two times, you can tell a difference. They are kind of expensive...about $25-$35 depending on which kind you get, but they both work great. If money is your concern, try the less expensive one. It's kind of weird at first to feel something stuck to your teeth for 30 minutes. And I suggest that when you take them off you have the toothbrush with toothpaste ready. Don't lick your teeth after you take the strips off cuz the gel is NASTY! Plus...some people, not all, experience soft teeth after using it. It just feels like your teeth are soft and weak. But I never experienced that. I still use them, not everyday though. Just when I'm going out and I want my teeth to look good. Because let me tell you...yellow teeth is a BIG turn off. Good luck with whatever you choose.
Reply:you cant.

It is impossible to get to 100% white. and why would you.

No ones teeth are that white. the best the strips can do for you is MAYBE give you up to two shades lighter.

i think 100% white would be like looking at this text box background here...

But youre question says Without using any cosmetic dentistry ,bleach trays or whitestrips(r)?

I heard that in some places in the world where there are no dentists they chew on a branch of a tree. Im not sure what tree it is and Im not being sarcastic. I think its a springy root of some kind...

Where can I find a list of UCLA accredited schools for dentistry courses?

I'm a high school senior and I'm aiming for UCLA, but I'm not sure that I'm getting in. So I'm looking for community colleges or other colleges that are accredited by UCLA so that after a few years, I could transfer to UCLA to pursue my graduate studies for dentistry. Where can I find a list of all the schools that are accredited by UCLA, preferably in California?

Where can I find a list of UCLA accredited schools for dentistry courses?
UCLA is in the busines of education and is not an accrediting agency.

Any state sponsored community college or university in California will be accredited. If you want ot go to dental school, you should attend the best undergraduate university tha tyou can get into. You will not be able to transfer to UCLA's dental school after community colege. You will need to go to a school that offers a bachelor's degree.

I'm a Grade 12 Student, and I want to apply to a University to get into Dentistry.?
I'm also in 12th grade and want to become a dentist.

I am going to Georgia College and State Univ. and will be a Pre-dental major then after four years I will transfer (if accepted) to Georgia Medical College, Auburn Univ. or Univ. of FL to get my DMD degree in denistry. You need to find a four-year school with a good pre-dental program, you will be focusing in chemistry and biology so AP courses in those subjects are good but it's not going to harm you if you don't take them.

Good luck.

Why don't you just go straight into dentistry? Would seem to be the best route if you want to be a dentist. I assume that you are a UK citizen so best do it in UK.

Is the Canadian DDS valid in the USA? And How is Dentistry Schooling?

Hey I was wondering how it would work if I were to get a DDS degree from Canada and moved at some point during my life to USA? Would I have to take an exam or redo everything?

Another quick question regarding schooling, I asked earlier. During the 4 years studying dentistry, do you still keep a summer off? Any courses during the summer? I was told you do clinical work during the summer but how does that work for first year considering you probably aren't qualified to work on a patient?

Is the Canadian DDS valid in the USA? And How is Dentistry Schooling?
Summers depend on the school but I would say that most have the summer off. Any school that is accredited in Canada is also accreditted for the USA and vice versa so any dentist from a Canadian school can work in the USA and vice versa. The only thing you need to do is pass the USA board exams which is not hard, and then pass the regional board exams depending on where you want to go. Even if you go to a school in the US you need to pass the same exams before you can work so there is no differance except the tuition at school in Canada is like half as much if not less than half.

Want to be a dentist but don't know if i can because of my pre dentistry college?

Am I going to have a harder time getting into a dental school because I went to a not so competitve college for pre dentistry?

Wright state University is where I went for predentistry.

Want to be a dentist but don't know if i can because of my pre dentistry college?
The prestige of school is not as important as what you have done in school academically and socially.
Reply:IT's a bit late to be worrying about that!

How did you do there? If it is not competitive and the other students in your classes were not top students, then you should have been able to be one of the best students in the university. If you graduated with top grades, then I think your chances of getting into Dentistry school is pretty good. But if you were a mediocre student at a mediocre school, then I think you are in trouble.

DENTISTS / DENTAL SCHOLARS, could you please comment on my clinical dentistry exam question?

Dentists / Dental Scholars and or Specialists,

I would really like a host of professional opinions on the following exam question taken from my final Clinical Dentistry exam. It's a no-brainer, but for some bizarre reason 4/6 points were scored 'incorrect'. I wish to consult my examiner and discuss.

The question was: "List the intra-oral signs of an incorrect brushing technique" (4).

My answer:

- evidence of cervical abrasion

- receeding gingiva

- inflamed gingiva

- gingival bleeding

- plaque buildup

- calculus

The examiner marked 4 of those incorrect, however, after researching further I've found all of the above to be intra-oral signs of incorrect brushing technique. Please would you comment / confirm below? Thank you in advance. Jon

DENTISTS / DENTAL SCHOLARS, could you please comment on my clinical dentistry exam question?
Cervical abrasion - excessive forces or brush that is too stiff will wear in the dentinal area near the CEJ, especially in someone with recession

Receding gingiva - again, excess force with a brush can wear the gingiva

Inflamed gingiva, Gingival bleeding, plaque buildup - obvious signs that there has been inadequate plaque removal

Calculus - Inadequate removal of plaque can lead to calculus formation - Although, there are individuals that have impeccable oral hygiene that still have calculus buildup.

So I agree with your answers. The only one that I see as somewhat questionable is Calculus.
Reply:your answer is perfect
Reply:those are all pretty good. dentists are typically terrible test writers and even worse test graders.

How many people want to be dentists or work in dentistry?

how many people now or when they were young wanted to be dentists or work in dentistry and why?

How many people want to be dentists or work in dentistry?
First, you need to volunteer in an office to handle odds and ends and to observe the dentist. This is really the only way you'll be able to tell if it's for you. I originally wanted to be a pediatrician, but the lifestyle of sleeping with a pager under my pillow did not appeal to me (I had to spend some time with a pediatrician to figure this out, too). The dental profession in the U.S. still has control over itself. The insurance companies and malpractice premiums have not taken over the profession as they have done in medicine. Being a dentist is a GREAT melting pot of science and art. You can help people and get paid very well for it. I've been doing dentistry for 7 years, and after some VERY intense growing pains (mostly in dental school and residency) I couldn't be happier doing it for a living. I hope this helps.

I never even wanted to be a cowboy or a fireman. Over the years, I did not abandon this childhood wish, because as I learned more and more about the profession, it seemed to match my artistic abilities and the desire to help people.
Reply:I was a full time dental assistant and now fill in when needed.

I went to school to assist b/c the field really interested me.

I fell in love w/ assisting b/c of the great dentist I worked for and the people I worked with. The hours are great. Having knowledge that can really help people is great. Educating patients who may otherwise not know basic oral hygiene beyond brushing is great. Assisting in complex procedures is great and makes you feel both needed and like you're a part of something that's major for someone. You work hard, but it's not hard work. Not for me anyway. I love it. I love my patients and the look on their face when you help make their smile "pretty" again!! Or when you help get rid of that horrible pain!

Merry Christmas!
Reply:I work as a dental nurse and have done since 1998.

It wasn't my choice of job but on leaving school I had gone around to most of the local business's and asked if any jobs vacant.

A few years later they had a vacancy and had remembered my name. I got the job and have been there ever since...I even took a year out abroad and then was re-employed by my the same surgeon on my return.

I love my job and I like to create a friendly relaxed atmosphere as I know that so any really find it hard to cope with. Seeing nervous patients get better at coping really boosts me and makes my job even more enjoyable.

What are my options if I don't get into dentistry school?

I'm an undergrad at UT-Austin planning on applying to dental school in a few years. It seems to me that I'm taking a risk by going this route, since I don't know what I'll do if I don't get into dental school. Are there any other ways to get into dental school later on? I've heard that you cna get a degree in dentistry once you get into grad school. How?

What are my options if I don't get into dentistry school?
Well...if you don't get into dentristy school...there are much more opportunities relating to life sciences that are pofessional courses. Consider being a doctor, pharmacist, optometrist, surgeon, and many more! So, dentistry isn't your only option, there are way more opportunities than you can think of!

Also, about getting into dental school, I think you need some years as an undergraduate and then a few more years as a graduate to become a dentist (this is a guess...it's most likely true)
Reply:Yes, it is somewhat risky to put all your eggs in one basket, especially in the situation of applying to dental/med school.

If you really want to be a dentist and cant get in the first year after undergrad, consider continuing into grad school or spending a gap year continuing research and

However, unlike what the previous poster said, most people go directly from undergrad to dental school. There is no grad school work in-between. I personally would not recommend trying to get into dental school year after year after your graduation from college. The most id try is 1 year after (a second try).

Apply to many dental schools to increase your chances of getting in.

Also, remember, if you get into Dental School, you are on the "home stretch". No longer do you need to try to be number 1 in order to ensure that you get accepted into another school. Just focus on passing and getting that DMD/DDS no matter what.

What major should I take for a career in dentistry?

What major should I take for a career in dentistry?

What major should I take for a career in dentistry?
Doesn't matter too much. Like most of the medical field professional schools, they don't care what you major in. Just take the prerequisite courses.
Reply:Everyone I have ever met in Dentistry school had a degree in either biology or chemistry.
Reply:Depends on what you want to specialize in and how far you already are in your studies. You can be a DDS (doctor of dental science, I think) an Oral Surgeon, an Orthodontist to name the few that I know. Contact the college where you want to study and ask for an admissions advisor. Make sure their program is acredited by the proper authorities in your state before you begin.

Good luck!

How many college credits do you need to graduate with a BS degree in pre dentistry?

im just starting college this year, im taking a load of biology and chemistry classes because i plan on majoring in these areas, to get ready for dental school. im going into pre-dentistry.

im taking 12-13 credits this semester

i plan on taking 18 next semester, 18 in the summer, and 18 in fall and spring of the following 2009 year. thats a whopping total of 85 credits if im right...

which means that in two years i could have my Associates degree in pre dentistry, is that right?

im confused though, about how many credits i neeed to get a B.S. degree in pre dentistry. isnt it around 120-130?

and is it possible for me to get my B.S. degree in 3 years flat...if i work my *** offf and get 18 credits per semester?

How many college credits do you need to graduate with a BS degree in pre dentistry?
It is possible to graduate in three years, if you take a full load and don't mess up. Many students average four to five years to graduate with a BS. The college you are at has specific information about how many credits it requires for a particular degree.

Some words of warning. Many colleges will not allow you to take 18 credits over the summer, or consider dentistry as an actual degree. Some dental schools will accept you before graduation and admit you based upon your qualifications.
Reply:Most Bachelor's degrees require 120 credits. That's typically 30 per academic year for most kids. If you pull off 40 per academic year, you could conceivably be done in 3 years.

However, this is probably only possible if you take summer courses. Pre-dental courses like bio and chem are not conducive to taking 18+ credits at a time.

I would like to get an UG Degree in Dentistry & tehn settle in canada?

I would like to get an UG Degree in Dentistry %26amp; tehn settle in canada . im in india currently . i completed my grade 12 recently, and was trying to explore possibilities..

Should i do the ug degree in india only, or should i do from canada itself ??? degree is recognised in india %26amp; canada??? duration of DDS???

I would like to get an UG Degree in Dentistry %26amp; tehn settle in canada?
i would say go to canada incase you wanted to pratice in the states. the school last 4 years.
Reply:By "UG" I assume you mean Undergraduate.

There is no UG degree for dentistry here. Most dentist's get that in a science field.

That will get you a job as a dental assistant or laboratory technician at most.

If you wanted to be a dentist - that is usually 4 years of schooling after your Bachelor's (BS or BA) degree. The dental schools can give you a list of the courses you need to take before dental school.

As to recognizing the degree, it would be simpler to get your BS/BA in Canada. I would contact the dental school and ask them. Most dental schools have a program for foreign dentists. But a BS/BA is far easier to transfer than a DDS.
Reply:I have no idea

Does anyone go the New York University College of Dentistry?

I was just wondering if NYUCD is a good place to go to study and become a dentist...I was also thinking about Columbia, but I've heard that it's very hard to be accepted...

Also, are there any other good colleges to study dentistry near NY and/or NJ?

Does anyone go the New York University College of Dentistry?
I am still in high school so obviously I have never went to the school although my dad has (he's currently a dentist). He went to the NYU College of Dentistry and apparently liked it. There are are also the SUNY Schools of Dental Medicine at Buffalo and Stony Brook and in NJ there is the University of Medicine %26amp; Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ).

Your experience with Oral Sedation in children's dentistry?

My 8 1/2 year old son with autism is going to have dentistry work done where they will administer oral sedation along with nitrous oxide and local anestehesia. The last time he had extensive dental work done, we was administered iv sedation and was totally asleep. What has been your experience with your child and the oral sedation? Do they feel alot? How awake are they? I was told alot of children will go to sleep (which is what I would prefer). Any tips or stories would be greatly appreciated!

Your experience with Oral Sedation in children's dentistry?
I work in a pediatric dental office. The doctor never uses sedation. The only anestehesia she will use is novacaine. She is the only doctor in the area who will work with handicapped and autistic children (and adults) and she doesn't use sedation on them either. She said most dentists use the sedation on children just to make it easier for them and charge more money. If you find a good dentist the sedation won't be necessairy.

I've had experience with nitrous oxide when I had my wisdom teeth out. It just makes you really loopy. With the novacaine you won't feel anything except for the prick shot to inject it.

I really do think you should look into finding a local specialist to work with you and your son so that he won't need to be sedated. Being in a pediatric office, I know it can be done since we work with children all day everyday.

If you let me know what area you are in I could ask the doctor if she knows of anyone good in your area.
Reply:I remember when I was a child, my dentist would always give me nitrous for some reason instead of just novacaine. I had it three or four times, and every time I would have HORRIBLE dreams/visions. One time I can remember seeing this huge motor in the room, it was just there and nothing else in the room was present, and my vision was focusing in on it. It was this huge steel motor, I don't know why I saw it but it really scared me.

The only other one I can remember was when I was a little older, maybe around 9 or 10. I was getting a tooth pulled and he administered the NO again. I was like oh great...so he put it over my nose and after a few minutes it takes effect...this was very strange, but my field of vision split into four pieces, each of them moving diagonally, away from the center, in small squares. In the spaces in between the squares, it looked just like outer space - it was all black and I could see stars shimmering. It was crazy. I actually freaked out and pushed the mask off my face and they had to put it back on. It was so strange seeing split up sections of my vision slowly come back together...

Man I'm glad I don't have to get that stuff anymore. But not everyone has bad dreams, some just have weird ones - which I guess mine just were, but they freaked me out nonetheless.
Reply:I don't know about children, but I've had oral sedation. (I'm a big chicken when it comes to the dentist!) I've had oral sedation twice, once to have my wisdom teeth removed, and once for another problem tooth and some fillings.

I can say it was the best dental experience of my life. I was prescribed the pills, and took them upon arrival at the dentist's office so I could be monitored. When I was getting drowsy they took me back to the room, where I was also given nitrous oxide. I felt the first shot going into my gum, and remember them saying, off and on, "Open your mouth," or "Keep it open." And that's all. I woke up and was done.

Just be careful afterward, because he will sleep for a while before the drugs wear off. The pills I was given, Halcion, made me forget everything about the experience. They also made me very clusmy afterward.

I'd do it again in a second, if I had to get more work done. It costs more, but it's worth it for a good experience.

Where can one go for some quality cosmetic dentistry in Thailand?

Is there a rating system in place for dentistry in Thailand? Are the labs up to U.S. standards?

Where can one go for some quality cosmetic dentistry in Thailand?
For example:

Dental Hospital

Sukhumvit Soi 49

Bangkok

Tel.: + 66 2 260 50 00

www.dentalhospitalbangkok.com

email: dental@loxinfo.co.th

I do not know if there exist a rating system for dentistry here. But I can confirm that they are good and much cheaper than USA/Europe. If you come for limited period in Thailand, you can ask them in advance for a short (intensive) program.
Reply:Cosmetic Dentistry is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges cosmetic dentistry for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as cosmetic dentistry is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your cosmetic dentistry can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.If you still havent got your surgery done, you are better off getting it done in India.

Can any one give me ful details regarding dentistry?
If you yearn to go to the best college for dentistry.

I recommend Queen Mary University of dentistry, it has a great reputation but needs perfect set of 3As for your A-Levels and take the mcat with a score of close to 36.

Prepare at least USD$300,000 to 400,000. This is a bare minimum for living and school fees.

Normally universities in Malaysia don't offer scholarships to others other than their academicians and staff..

For others, scholarships are normally offered by either government entities or corporates..

Do you know any Dentists or anybody studying dentistry, and can give me more info about it?

I'm considering a career in dentistry. I know it takes a lot of hard hard work, but what I'd like to know is how hard is the coursework and is it plausible for someone to get through it.?

Do you know any Dentists or anybody studying dentistry, and can give me more info about it?
DAVID,

A FRIEND OF MINE ONCE SAID, "ANYTHING WORTH HAVING IS WORTH WAITING AND WORKING FOR."

THE COURSEWORK HAS MANY SCIENCES LIKE BIOCHEMISTRY, ANATOMY, MICROBIOLOGY,ETC., TO IT.

IT'S A STEP BY STEP PROCESS. THERE ARE STAGES TO ALL OF IT.

I DID NOT THINK OF IT AS 4 YEARS OF HELL AFTER UNDERGRAD, BUT I JUST TOOK IT ONE DAY AT A TIME, AND KEPT SEEING MYSELF GRADUATING AS A DOCTOR OF DENTAL SURGERY.

LOOKING BACK THOSE YEARS SEEM LIKE A DROP IN THE BUCKET.

THE KEY IS LOVING WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO COMMIT TO. IF YOU DON'T LOVE THE FIELD THEN IT'S NOT FOR YOU.
Reply:It's not easy. Start getting experience now shadowing dentists and such. Dental school is four grueling years. Lots of lab time, lots of studying, lots of luck.
Reply:Is 4 years of college and 3 or 4 dental school. In dental schoo you would take a lot of oral pathology, pharmacology, dental materials, and a lot of clinical. I am a dental assistant going to school for dental hyegien, because I don't want to end up with a 300,000 dollar loan, And dental hyegien is a great field.
Reply:I'm a student, if you really but really love with all your heart and mind this career, go ahead... If you have doubts, investigate about it, study it a year, if you don't like it in this time, forget it. But it's very difficult, you have to spend a lot of time studying, you'll see your friends having a future, couple, kids, money, job, and you'll continue been a student. Sometimes, you feel frustated and stressed but if you love it, everything will be easier, but you do your best effort. Pray, God bless you

COST OF BRACES FROM University Of Pacific School -DENTISTRY?

i want to know how much do braces cost at University Of Pacific School -DENTISTRY in SAN FRANCISCO. because i went there for nothing today basicly. waited really long. and i dont know if the lady even knows what she was talking about. also i want to know if theres a waiting time to get started.. because i need braces as soon as possible. i waited too long. so if you know please tell me. it would be nice if you actually have experiance. but if not still. i need an answer.lol. thanks..

COST OF BRACES FROM University Of Pacific School -DENTISTRY?
I heard of the same experience. People going to dental

schools early in the morning, waiting and then being rejected

or strung along for a ride.

An alternative for you to get a lower price braces and with no

such hassle and no waiting would be to check out

the Orthodontist CA plan.
Reply:Braces at the University of Pacific School of Dentistry probably cost around $3,000-4,000 depending on the complexity of your case. When you get there, tell them you are interested in braces (the department is on the 1st floor, not the clinic floor). They will make you fill out lots of paperwork, and the process to become a patient is very slow. They will also want to perform a screening in case you need other dental work, and eventually take x-rays. It will take lots of time, but after becoming a patient, then things will be better.
