Psychology in Dentistry???

I'm pursuing a career of Dentistry, and am going for my BA in Biological Sciences / Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences. However, I really have a passion for Psychology, and initially wanted to major in that.





Does it make any sense to minor in Psychology when I want to pursue dentistry? Are there more beneficial minors? What would be the benefits of a Psychology minor? No smart allic answers please!! This is my future here!

this isn't an easy question to answer, but yes it is beneficial. You have no idea how many people do not go to the dentist because of fear. Psychology will also be beneficial to your career if you plan on doing clinical studies in an administrative setting. Also check out some organizations to help you on your way with your career (some include the ADA, ADEA, and your states dental society)

Reply:I think you could under stand your patients better. You would not believe how many people are scared to death of the dentist.
Reply:It wouldn't do any harm, and might make you a more "diverse" candidate to schools. You should minor in whatever you find interesting and feel you would do well in. Psychology may help you to better understand people in general, and relate to your future clients as well. Your school may or may not require training in statistics and research methods for minors; if it does, exposure to these areas will make you more attractive to any graduate program.
Reply:Dentistry has the highest suicide rate amongst all professions, so maybe a minor in psychology wouldn't hurt. Also, peoples teeth tell the story of their lives. It could be helpful to know psychology so you could help people have better lives, hence better teeth.
