I'm going to study dentistry in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Now my first languages are Arabic and English, very fluent in both and honestly I don't know a single work in Turkish.. I just like their kebabs!
I was informed by the university that I'll require 1-2 semisters of learning Turkish.. Now is this enough for me to fully understand dentistry.. i mean it's a very advanced field of medicine.. Any help here?
Is learning Turkish easy (required to study dentistry in N. Cyprus)?
I think Near East University offers Dentrisity in English.
If they offer in Turkish, yes you ll have a very hard time of course. But I dont think so.
But in order to live in North Cyprus yes you have to speak Turkish lil bit. But you ll get used to it in time. Dont Worry. And we have a lot of common words with arabic too...
Reply:The bad news is that Turkish is totally unrelated to either English or Arabic and the way sentences are structured is completely different to either of those languages:
For example:
çanta - means - bag
çantam = my bag
çantamda - in my bag
çantamdaki - the one that is/was in my bag
çantamdakiler - the ones that are/were in my bag
çantamdakileri kaybetmişim - I seem to have lost the ones that were in my bag
...and so so.
The good news is that:
(a) Turkish is very regular and logical - there are no irregular verbs and only a couple of "defective" verbs.
(b) If you know Arabic you will recognise quite a few words that have been borrowed from that language, though they are often adapted to Turkish:
Kitap - book; mektup - letter; isim - name; takriben - approximately, and so on - although over the past 70-80 years many Arabic words have been gradually replaced with native Turkish words: for example, Turkish children now go to "okul" but most Turkish speakers still know what a "mekteb" is.
Reply:North Cyprus is not a real country!!!!!!!! Cyprus HAS ALWAYS AND WILL STAY GREEK!!!! Turks out of Cyprus!!!
Reply:Some says it is easy whereas the others say it is not. I could not know as I am native. Are you from Egypt by any chance?
