Why is medicine and dentistry still so primitive and invasive?

dentists focus on looks. but focus should be on increasing functionality, maintainability and minimizing invasiveness and cost. for instance, why do they have to drill out tooth decay? they should be able to chemically treat it or subject it to uv or ultrasonics or oblate germ surfaces with laser and and wash to fill it with lifetime guarenteed sealant of identical coefficient of expansion. It seems root canals and crowns should be unnecessary unless there is already uncontrolled rotting. Are there dentists practicing more advanced dentistry in US focused on lowering maintenance instead of making big bucks on hachet jobs?

Also, where would one find healthcare practitioners, with some means, more interested in experimental methods to improve quality of life?

Why is medicine and dentistry still so primitive and invasive?
Why don't you suggest that to i dunno.. some dentistry department... cuz it does seem interesting and cool
