Please help, any advice is appreciated! Dentistry?

I don't know what I want to be. I have a 3.5/4.3 gpa (however it is going up) %26amp; I am in my 3rd year of university.

I love science, working with people and I like to be challenged. A few options;

1. Pharmacist: very interesting to see how drugs interact with the body, it's becoming more people oriented, and it would be SO fun to get into the business aspect/pharmaceutical/ marketing etc.

2. Physiotherapist: i actually get to work with patients! but i feel this would not suit me as it would not be challenging enough for me, i know i would get bored of working with muscles, stretching etc. however i have the best chance prob of getting into physio

3. Dentistry: VERY cool as you get to specialize on the teeth. Its like art. AND own your own business, AND have patients! however its EXTREMELY competitive and i need to be realistic. I don't have the marks (i am trying harder). very few dental schools.. and they rarely accept students outside of their university/hometown.

Please help, any advice is appreciated! Dentistry?
Don't be discouraged if you think that you don't have the credentials to get in I would recommend you check www.predents.com first. This site lets you look at stats from different dental schools about incoming students and all kinds of stuff. Don't discourage yourself either.

You grades are one aspect of your Dental School Application. I am sure you know that.

You think Physiotherapy might be boring so you already ruled that one out.

Also check out www.studentdoctor.net and http://forums.studentdoctor.net/forumdis... . The second link is Dental specific. Ask questions on the forums and that should be able to help you.
Reply:Picture yourself in 30 years time.

They say the definition of love is when you 'can't live without that person', and that you don't appreciate things till they've gone. Imagine that you're about to retire - what would you really regret?

Never having done this? Or never having done that?

Sometimes it helps people think more clearly about what they want when they try to think how they'd feel if they didn't have it or had never gone after it in the first place.

Good luck! And don't be swayed by what other people want for you either, your family and friends might want the best for you but this is a big decision and only you will have to live with it for the rest of your life!

Having said that, I might be wrong, but it seems to me like you've already decided you want to follow dentistry and are making excuses why you 'can't' do that.

There are no excuses. If it's what you want you have to go for it and if you come up against a barrier - then go around it or knock it down or something but don't let anything stop you from doing what you want. If you really want it then life is too short to settle for second best and spend the rest of your life regretting what 'might have been' if only you'd had the strength and courage to follow your heart.

Ooops sorry, think I turned into Oprah there for a minute... lol
Reply:ok first of all you said that you dont want to spend many years in college. to be a:

1. dentist- it will be about 4+4+2= 10 years at least

2. physiotherapist- it would be about 4+4+2+2= 12 years

3. pharmacist- about 4+4= 8 years

For many of your reasons and others all of these are good jobs. however, each has its own weak point and problem, as you stated.

if you are asking for preferance i would quickly prefer dentistry, adventurous and fun. Also it is challenging.

According to other information and schools the time in college after a postgraduate(4 years) will differ.

i hope the little information i provided helped you. and don't enclose yourself by what others say, it is your life and your thought really matters.
Reply:As a pre-pharmacy I wanted to inform you of the competitive nature of pharmacy school. Each year it gets much more difficult to get into pharmacy school. Just at the college I am attending they had over 2,000 applications for 100 seats in pharmacy school last year. Just like dental schools there are very few pharmacy schools. Also to be realistic about getting into pharmacy school one must have a very high gpa, work experience, and a very high pcat score.

I hope you the best luck in choosing your future career!!
